Find a creative theme. I went to a 60th birthday party a couple of weeks ago. The theme was SUSHI, SOKI, ____'S TURNING SIXTY (that was on the invitations. Along with sushi (which is fairly priced at HEB), other Japenese food was served. The party was made into a roast where people told stories of the birthday person. Fabulous party. Original idea!
