Butterfly Centerpieces

I am getting married this Sept & my theme is butterflies. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of butterfly centerpieces I could have? Something that is not too expensive. There will be about 20 tables. I prefer not to have floating candles, I would like something unique.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
How about a helium-filled butterfly balloon floating over a simple centerpiece? Or on top of a small cluster of round balloons? Then a weight can be attached and hidden in a small pot of silk flowers with a colorful plastic or enamel butterfly perched on the flowers.

See example of balloons:

Good luck!

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
Might I suggest butterfly centerpieces made out of sugar? I am a sugar artist and have created mini-cakes with butterflies that were the hit of the reception.
Check out my website: www.artisticconfections.com and you'll see samples of my work.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
You could put weighted boxes with Butterfly wrapping paper as a center piece. It is inexpensive and can look very nice.

I will be getting married too and my theme is buterflies as well. I am having an upside down fish globe with two butterflies on it, i stick them on a see trough wire on a piece of foam, and put flowers around the globe, so it looks like the butterflies are flying.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
This does not have to do with center pieces but I thought this will go with the butterfly theme. At my wedding each guest will release a monarch butterfly instead of throwing rice, birdseed or bubbles. You can order them and they come the day before in a refrigeratored box. I heard it looks beautiful in pictures. If you need the info email me at xomissprimxo@aol.com

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
If you are crafty you could make a centerpiece using butterflies made out of colored feathers. They sell them at craft stores like Micheal's and look fairly realistic. You could put real or fake evergreen boughs on a platter and glue the butterflies on a log resting on the boughs. Or if you have flowers you could glue the butterflies to the vase. Or if you do the fruit basket centerpiece, you could glue them to the basket. Just a few ideas off the top of my head.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
A simple and whimsical way to incorporate butterfiles into your table decor is to have your florist use faux butterflies, they are made out of feathers though look really quite lovely and are available at floral supply houses; and position them so that they appear to be flitting around the flowers of your centerpiece. For this to look realistic, the focus of your floral decor should be more casual and garden-like; think big sunflower heads, bright colors, flowers that would naturally attract butterflies. You could also create a tabletop "garden" utilizing sections of wheat grass which looks like a very manicured lawn, as a base for your centerpiece.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
It's not a centerpiece, but I was in michael's last night and they have butterfly wedding bubbles. Very sweet.

I also saw orchid centerpieces on Martha Stewart's site.
In the wedding section with white butterfly cutouts "floating" above the flowers.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
I am also having a butterfly wedding theme. I have found countless, non-wedding related items that can be of great use, as well as economical. Ex. A paper punch I found at a scrapbooking store $2.99, it makes confetti for free...looks great in color in the center of table under a centerpice. I am using flowers with small white nylon butterflies on each one. There are butterflies on everything. The cake will be white white cobalt blue glass butterflies, I purchased both small (quarter size) and 2 larger butterflies. I could go on and on....I seriously have over 500 bookmarks. Want a ice 'sculpture' buy a butterfly cement step mould and freeze!!! Use dustilled water for clarity. I need a hobby other than mybutterfly wedding. The entire wedding is based on a necklace I received from my fiance its a sapphire and diamond white gold....its the size of a quarter strung on pearls. Anyway if your intrested in web sites or other info email me....I also have a neat way to tie butterfly bows....and butterfly shaped place cards

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
This is not a centerpiece idea, but... I made our invitations (theme:fall colors & fall leaves) with our printer, a bow tied on the bottom and a really nice sticker of a leaf. It sounds really cheesy but the stickers are so nice ( I got them at Michael's) that everyone who has seen the invitation says, "where did you get that leaf stationery?" or "how did you do that leaf?". I always feel a little sheepish when I tell them it's just a sticker, but that proves that it can look really nice. I bet you could find an equally nice butterfly sticker. The brand was Stickopotamus; you can buy them on the internet too.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
It's a miracle that I found this website. I'm assisting my best friend with her wedding, and we are stumped about ideas for a butterfly centerpiece. I would love to get directions on how to make butterfly bows. If you could email me, that would make everything so much easier for us. Much mahalo from Oahu.

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
I like the tall inexpensive Pedestal type centerpieces and you could put greenery with small florets in the top. Then you could attach faux butterflies to them. I think that would be so cute and inexpensive but unique!

Don't know if you have a favor yet, but my theme is also butterflies and I am using butterfly shaped cookie cutters (can buy at any craft store), filling them with chocolate (I am using white) and wrapping with tulle and tie shut with a bow (I am using black b/c my bridesmaids dresses are black). If you have any ideas as well, please email me!

Re: Butterfly Centerpieces
Live Butterflies for weddings, NO PLEASE!!
Many people are getting into this new trend of releasing live butterflies at their weddings. Although it looks beautiful, this is a very dangerous and non-environmental practice for the butterflies.
Many Non-regulated companies are now breeding butterflies who carry diseases, and when released go to infect the wild ones. Also, due to the popularity of this trend the number of poachers particularly in Latin America are diseminating these beautiful insects.
So, please, please, on behalf of the butterflies. STOP THIS PRACTICE AT ONCE!!
