I am only 14 years old but i know i want to be a wedding planner i am trying to find a webpage that tells you what you make average and what college I can go to near by!!!
If you are only 14, there are only a few things that you can do to get started:
1. Do well in what you are doing NOW (ie: school)... It'll pay off later. Pay particular attention to math, economics, etc.
2. If you are looking for a college, find one with a good business or communications department (there are no colleges who offer a degree in wedding planning). You don't NEED a degree in this business, but it certainly helps build a little credibility.
3. Find a wedding planner who will let you be her assistant. You may not be able to do this for a couple of years (child labor laws, etc.), but experience (even unpaid) is what is going to help you become a planner.

To become a wedding planner, it helps to get a degree in floral design.Look up Rittener School of Floral Design on the web. They have correspondance courses. As soon as age allows get a job at a florist and pay attention. In our company we not only plan and co-ordinate, but we also do floral design, sew dresses, make headpieces and veils, ring-pillows, memory books, cake toppers, flower girl baskets, decorations and the lot. The more you can do, the better. I started by asking a florist for a job for a week, I told her if after a week, If I wasn't learning enough or hardworking enough I would leave no questions asked and she wouldn't have to pay me. That showed her that I was genuinely interested and wanted to learn. She said she would give me a shot, but she wouldn't feel right about not paying me. Anyway, I was 14 and got a parent signed work permit (summer), I ended up being there till I graduated and she is the one who sponsered me in floral design school. The funny thing was I had learned more from her than I did in the floral design school! But before people put their trust in you for their most important day, you have to have that piece of paper and referances. I started by helping friends and relatives with their weddings. I took pictures of all my work, (at the flower shop and on my own) and put them in an album for prospective customers to look at. I made arrangements for family and friends gifts, corsages for my mom to wear for every holiday, and even a few boquets for people I knew as their wedding gifts. I did a lot of free work before I ever earned money at it. But unless you live in a big town, and get a job with a planning company, it is really hard to make a living doing just the planning part. Most people don't want to pay a planner to just plan. My advice, no matter what the old rules are about weddings, encourage the bride to have it her way. She will have more confidance in you if she feels you aren't going to buck her at every turn. It's a lot of fun, but for now start checking your newspaper and go to every wedding you can. Weather you know the people or not. A lot of announcements in the paper will say friends welcome, become a friend and be sure to take a small gift! Keep a notebook on hand and write down ideas. I even got a job once in a grocery store bakery, so that I could learn how to do cakes too. You will meet a lot of brides this way! It helps to also be able to sew, Home Ec can teach you the basics , get a sewing machine (or borrow mom's as I did) and start making your own clothes. The more you practice the better you will get. Hi. I'm getting ready for college, and ever since I could remember I've been obsessed with weddings, I even watch A Wedding Story on TLC. I've been doing some research and I've heard you can make $5,000 a month, part-time. So thats $60,000 a year, part-time...what would happen if you went full-time. That really excites me, but my question is...what location would you recommend to make the best dollar. I can't really find any information on that. Any tips would be appreciated..also what courses would you recommend. I live in New Jersey...If you know of a school or something let me know. Thanks!
