WISHING WELL POEM

HOPE THIS HELPS:
WE DON'T WANT YOU TO FUSS
OR WALK THE TOWN FOR US
WE'VE BEEN IN OUR HOUSE FOR SOMETIME NOW
AND WE'D LIKE TO BUY SOMETHING NEW
A GIFT OF CASH IN OUR WISHING WELL
WILL HELP OUR DREAMS COME TRUE

Re: WISHING WELL POEM
The wishing well was created as a convenience to the bride and groom so that they do not have to hold their cards - not to stand by it and say "nothing else BUT money". It has gotten out of hand. If you are having a wedding just to gather money - then don't have one. Instead invest the money that you would spend. Don't think that every penny that you spend will come back to you - because it won't unless you are apart of the mafia, or a Kennedy - then maybe you'll triple what your FAMILY spent under those circumstances.
I spent 29,000 on my wedding and I got 11,000 back. Mind you, I paid for the entire wedding myself, my husband bought our house, and the wedding was according to what my inlaws wanted, and mostly their guests - nothing was the way I wanted. My inlaws wanted to show off, as I suffered, yet I didn't beg for money. I took it all gracefully - everyone had fun and that was all that mattered. Don't think that people don't take things personally just because they still come to your wedding and give a gift - some give less just to spite the couple, and teach them a lesson. I know 5 couples that have a TON of cash - and that is exactly what they do. One of the couples just won't go if they are asked to give money - even thought they always give cash.
As for getting 10 toasters, there are proper things to do like registering for gifts, that's still acceptable - not begging for money. So unless you have stupid guests, that don't know how to use a gift registry, there shouldn't be a problem with more than one toaster being given to you......

Re: WISHING WELL POEM
Wow, you had an expensive wedding! My wedding plans started the same way... Everything was what my father wanted. But in the end i just had to stand up to him and say, No dad, this is my day and i want to remember it that way. If you want to invite all those people to the reception, then you're going to have to pay for it, AFTER all the people I want to be there have been invited, not instead of them.

I'm sure your wedding was beautiful, what would you have done differently?

Re: WISHING WELL POEM
I just can't believe the fuss this poem has created! In my defence I was actually trying to reply to a message that had been posted previously, but, as I was only a beginner in using the net I accidently posted the poem elsewhere. I was not trying to say it is acceptable to ask for money, I was simply trying to help a bride in need. So to all those people I have offended with this poem I am truly sorry.

Re: WISHING WELL POEM
How is giving a tacky poem begging for money helping a bride in need? I guess you are helping her make a fool of herself.

Re: WISHING WELL POEM
Don't register.
When people ask where you are registered, your close family members and bridal party will tell them you decided not to register. Your guests are not stupid. Most of them will write a check. But some of them will pick out a gift anyway and you'll just thank them and exchange it if you don't want it. A gift is from the heart and you really can't tell people what they should or shouldn't give to you. If you do then it's not really a gift anymore it's just demand.

Re: WISHING WELL POEM
You just don't register. Your guests will take the hint. Besides that, if your guests no anything about you, they will no that you have been living together and don't need much for your home.

I would just like to say that some of you must not have very intelligent guests if you think that they are unable to understand a registry printout and buy you ten toasters.
