Can anyone tell me the top 5 main differences between American culture and Brazilian culture? I'm doing a report on it. I live in Brazil and I've lived in the U.S. Too, but I'd like to know some other person's point of view.

I will be marrying a Brazilian in July 2005. I think the top 5 cultural differences include the engagement prcedures, the engagement rings, the reception/party invitations, the bridal party, and the rehearsal dinner. I'm a Brasilian living in US. I'm also writting a paper on brasilian weeding for my speech class, but this is just a small part, my paper is on BR traditions.
I married my brazilian husband in Brazil. I am English living in England. My experience is that the customs are extremely different. They take life and relationships seriously and are completely and utterly devoted to family values. Mainly they don't bother with engagement rings - instead the wedding rings are worn on the right hand and swapped over to the left hand when married. Timing keeping - noone seems to take it seriously. From the woman doing my makeover to the chauffeur taking us to the church. I was kept waiting more than half an hour at my OWN wedding because guests weren't turning up on time. Compared to a weddings in UK, mine in Brazil was treated like a simple celebration. Some guests confirmed, but then didn't bother to turn up. Those that did, by-passed the greeting line and just plonked themselves down at the table - one guest even sat themselves at the head table. No-one bought us a gift (including my husbands parents!!), One couple stole our first dance. I could go on, but I guess you've worked out that my wedding day was a bit of a disaster. What I considered a simple wedding, turned out to be a posh/grand wedding that our Brazilian guests were not used to.

I am trying to help my best friend with her wedding and I would like toadd a touch of her Brazilian background. I don't know if she knows a whole bunch about it but I would like for her her to have a touch of where she came from.
