I would be very grateful if you could send me instructions/patterns on how to make chair covers. I am getting married in August and am desperate to find instructions on how to make these! Your help is very much appreciated!!
Hello,
You have to know the style of chair you have first. Is it banquet, folding, round back, square back etc. I have looked on line for rentals and sales and the very cheapest I have seen was 2.50 each for rent, plus shipping, so I decided to take on the project of making 250 covers with sashes for my sons wedding in October. I brought one chair home from the hall. I measured around the bottom of the chair legs which is the widest part and added 4 inches for pleats. Then I measured the height, most chairs are 17" high. I measured the width and depth of the seat and the back. It is pretty simple when you get going. I cut the skirt, hemmed it and sewed it together and then attateched the front and two sides of the seat. Then I sew the seam around the chair back which is 2 pieces so it slides over and attach that to the seat and the skirt. That is where the little corner pleats come in as the skirt is larger at the top than the seat is, so I just tuck in two pleats at the back corners. I bought all the material at Walmart in their $1.00 clearance aisle. I have also seen a pattern at Walmart in the Mcalls home furnishing pattern book if that helps. Good luck, my family thinks that I am crazy for attempting all of this, so I am bound to show them that I can.
