Hello. My daughter is 12 right now and we are talking about having a quinceanera for her 15th birthday. Because my mother did not raise us in the Catholic church, I am wondering how that affects how things are done. Even though her 15th is still a couple years away, I am trying to get things going early so I will have enough time. Does anyone know how to go about planning when the family is not Catholic?
Non-Catholics also have quinceaneras. They're also regular events in my neighborhood's protestant churches. If you don't regularly attend any church maybe you can talk to one of your choice, I'm sure they'll be glad to help you with the service. If you don't want a church service then do a google search and look for ideas to create your own celebration. Different latin cultures do quinceaneras in slightly different ways so there's not one set of rules you must absolutely follow. You can modify it to fit your needs. The important thing is to celebrate your daughter!
