My name is Yolanda, I am a 34-year-old mother of two sons; Darius Emmanuel age16 and Marlon Denard, age 19 months. I currently reside in my hometown Detroit, Michigan with my sons and the man that I love and hope to marry. He is the biological father to my youngest son, but has become a loving and supportive male figure to my older son who has had some difficulties in the three years that we have been together. Not only has he been a father to both of my sons, but also he has supported and loved me through financial difficulties, problems with my oldest son, problems with my health, and most recently the death of my beloved mother Odell McKee. It was then that I realized that despite all that we have been through, arguments, infidelities, and temporary breakups that this is the man that I love and want to marry in a traditional Christian ceremony complete with all the amenities. It is important to me not only as a fulfillment of what I believe to be every young girl’s dream, but an expression of the deep faith and morality that is a part of what my mother instilled in me at a very young age. This wedding would honor her memory and make our lives so complete.
I write to you today because the dream will remain a dream without your assistance. Due to my health issues and the difficult economy here in Detroit, I cannot realistically plan the type of wedding that would be an expression of our love and commitment before our family and friends. I need help to bring this wedding to reality. Our families can only provide moral support at this time because of their own financial and health difficulties. I know that if my Mother were still with us she would spare no expense in creating a day to remember for her only daughter. I lost my only brother to a violent crime several years ago. He too would have loved to see his sister married in “style” This family desperately needs a celebration of life that will signal a new beginning. With your help I will be able to provide them with this memorable day.
