Summer Wedding

I'm having a summer wedding, my colour is going to be fushia. I'm having the wedding itself in a church and then the reception at a hall. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on what I could do for a dinner to make it cost less, and what to do for favours.

Re: Summer Wedding
Hmmmm... Where are you getting married? Where are you from?

Have you tried.. Possibly trying to make the favors yourself? well you and your friends?
Food... .chicken - buffet is always cheaper.. Cause you dont really need to hire servers.

Re: Summer Wedding
Hey there, I'm having an outdoor summer wedding so it might be different, depending on where you're having it (hotel vs. Caterer) and it's in NY state ($$$), but I found that buffet vs. Sit down weren't that different in price -- b/c buffet needs to prepare xtra food vs. Sit down needs extra servers...I guess you'd have less people to "tip" if you did the buffet though...In the end I think it's marginal - so talk to the vendors and compare. Good luck!

Re: Summer Wedding
Hello again,
As for a dinner to cost less than other it depends on several things.. One is if you cook and prepare it yourselves or if you have someone do it. Another is what food you fix or have someone else to fix. Checking prices with different people and companies is the best. A lot of times you can get a sample of what they do or references. I know from working with weddings if you can find someone who is starting out or does it on the side, they will be cheaper.
So which do you plan to do, yourself or have someone else do it?
Hope this helps..

Re: Summer Wedding
How about pasta? As long as people are careful when eating so as not to stain their dress clothes. My family loves pasta and it's pretty cheap.....you could do different kinds of noodles and then have alfredo and spagetti sauce all out on a buffet. It would be easy and fairly inexpensive to set up a small salad buffet too. And for favors....what are you doing for center pieces. I love flowers so all the centerpieces are going to be vases of flowers, so, since guys don't really care about flowers anyway...I'm going to tie a ribbon on the stem of each flower with our names, date and the guest who's flower that is. So if ten people are at the table i'll put a ribbon on ten flowers with a different person at that tables name on each it....the men can just give their flower to their significant other. This way you get the gorgeous flowers that are expensive anyway and get to use them in two ways..plus what girl doesn't love getting flowers, and you don't have to try to figure out what to do with all of them afterward.

Re: Summer Wedding
I found these really cute favor boxes on eBay. The are clear and 2"X2"X1" and come with organza ribbons for each box. I paid $25 for 200 boxes, which is a great deal when you look at similar boxes in stores. I am probably going to filll them with Jelly Belly jelly beans. I estimate each favor to cost about $1.25. Please e-mail me if you have any questions at nheseman@hotmail.com. The eBay seller I bought the boxes from had the username of "markswife24". Good luck!

Re: Summer Wedding
Thank you all for the wonderful ideas. I'm having my wedding here in Canada. I live in a small town, so there aren;t very many people to choose from for catering. I like the pasta Idea, eventhough I cannot eat pasta because I have ulcerative colitis, my guesta can and I can have the salad bar. That sounds like a great Idea.
And about the center pieces, both ideas are great, I'm not sure what one I';m going to do, but I like the sounds of them.
I was also thinking for the dinner (supper) I would have buns with meat and cheese and pickles, and then salads (pasta, and potato). Would that be stupid?

Re: Summer Wedding
I found this on MSN and then followed to the website - Wedding Lollipops. The article talked about someone famous that did this and how well it was received. We are also making our own bookmarks to include as a favor. I'm not sure what else we will do, but we are sure of these 2. Http://www.lorannoils.com/wedding_favor.htm

Hello again,
Remember it is your day..:) So nothing you decide to do for your day will be stupid. It sounds like you have a good idea of what things would work well with you and your guest.
If you need pictures of center pieces, please let me know and I will send you some.. My email is angwillard@yahoo.com
