I am planning a surprise sweet sixteen party for my younger sister. We are doing a night club theme. We have rented a hall and DJ with lighting effects, will be having the walls etc drapped with black fabric and have black lights, going to hand out glow in the dark necklaces and etc when people come in- have a bouncer - a little bar area for mocktails dancing and etc ...

You could do a kind of red carpet type party. Just have people dress in like semi formal clothes [no sneakers,jeans, etc.]. You could put a red carpet leading to the door and then through the room to the front and then have parents or someone take pictures of people as they come in and also get them to sign a book like they are "asking for autographs". Decorate with lots of spotlights and speakers for music all over the room and sparkles and a podium in from of the room on a small stage.throughout the night have people go up to the podium and make "speeches" [they could talk about memories they have, or just wish you a happy birthday and such]. For invitations you could have various items like a microphone a trophy etc. A little before the party is over you could go to the podium and go up to it and call guests up one by one and give them a favor, which could be a mini trophy filled with candy and such. That would be like giving them an award! hope this helps! happy sweet 16!!
