Need ideas for outdoor wedding decorations

Okay kids, I'm going to try this again since we've got so many vendors now on the site. I'm looking for inexpensive, but beautiful, outdoor wedding decorations. I am getting married on Mother's Day so trying to find a florist has turned into a major feat with our budget. I've managed to come up with an idea for centerpieces, but I'm getting completely burnt out on trying to come up with other decorations. We're not into the "arch" thing... but I'm open to pretty much anything else.

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I think the arch and the gazebo are both "cheezy". I am getting married outside as well under some oak trees. We are using 2-6ft Roman Columns with minimal greenery wrapped around them and tulle, greenery, and flowers connecting the 2 columns. We have thought about have 2-3ft columns as well with a rose bouquet on each. As for the decorations for the tables. We bought vases for 1.25/ea at a party store. We are putting roses in 1/2 of them and oil, rose pedals and floating candles in the other half. Then we will sprinkle rose petals around the table. We are doing this all ourselves. We have found that in order to do 8 tables, as I have just described, it will cost us about $45 all together. Hope this gives you some help.
Good Luck

My daughter is getting married June 22, 2001. We live in a wooded area with a grassy center that will hold the tent. Expect about 200 people. Looking for ideas for lighting ideas, centerpieces, and any pictures you can transmit for ideas. Thanks, Jan Johnson

Jan,

If you have trees aurrounding the grassy area, this will work perfectly. You may use either jelly jars, or pint size jars - any glass recetacle with a lip that will keep the wire from slipping over the top. Place ribbon or wire (normal, floral, or they even have the deorative color/copper ones.but you won't see the color) around the lip of the jar, place a long lasting votive in it, and use more wire or ribbon to hang it from the trees. Hang dozens to hundred of them at various heights. It looks amazing. We did this at my wedding. We also made luminaries to line our pathway to the tent. From white bags (found at our local grocer/bakery), sand and small votives. These will help lighting and give romance. Have tons other ideas for outdoor weddings. Emai me if you wish.

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
We're getting married in a redwood grove, and there are some restrictions on candles that others may have, too,
So I thought I would tell you some of the things we're considering:

Battery operated paper lanterns hanging between trees
Battery operated little blinky lights mixed in with ivy on the table runners (we have rectangular tables)
Pair of metal garden trellis that is like a screen (not an arch) that will go in our garden afterwards
Sunflowers, sunflowers, sunflowers everywhere

From the great state of Kansas, here is the chance to own a piece of Americana. Here in Dodge City, the "Cowboy Capitol of the World", the cowboys still tend to the thousands of head of cattle, and there is plenty of open land that is untouched by man. Here you can see these wonderful treasures gliding by the open fields -- what a gorgeous piece of nature. Now, you too can have a piece of history without ever leaving your home. These fabulous pieces from The Great Plains are great for your western themed wedding celebration. They also make great home decorations, centerpieces, photo projects, dry flower arrangements, CHRISTMAS centerpieces, candle pieces, lawn decor, and craft projects. They may also be used for theatre sets, movie sets, TV sets, theme parties and department store window displays. There are three sizes to choose from -- S, M, L -- natural (unpainted) or painted -- If you need many of these for your western party or celebration e-mail for a quote. PICS AVAILABLE BY E-MAIL of these tumblers -- Buyer to pay actual shipping charges, insurance is optional but recommended. International buyers accepted but pay a fixed shipping rate. We accept personal checks (held 10 days to clear), money orders and cashier's checks, these will ship the same day. Please, if you have any questions or specific tumbleweed needs, feel free to e-mail us and we will respond promptly. We also offer bulk purchases at a cut rate -- THANKS FOR LOOKING – Please contact us directly at: calmekul@lycos.com

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I am also getting married outside with the reception in an old barn up on the Northern California coast. I was having trouble thinking of how I was going to create an alter. I decided that if I got two trees, like olive trees, we can put one on either side of the "alter" and that would create an intimate space. There are no trees where we are getting married so we have to create something from scratch. I have also heard of creating something on the ground, lik a ring of wheat stalks (fertility) or a heart shape of rose petals. I am still open to ideas so if you hear anything else, let me know. Good luck!

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
Hi All!

I am also planning an outdoor wedding in July. We're planning to do it while we're on a family camping trip/reunion with a few families thrown in for good measure.

I think I've got the ceremony and the decorations/settings in mind, but what I'm having trouble with is "something" to wear. My hubby-to-be will wear khakis and a white shirt, and all the guests will be in equally casual attire, but I'm fuddled about what I should be wearing.

Any ideas? (As you can guess I'm not the princess, fluffy type, and cowboy boots are not going to cut it either, but all else is open)

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I am planning a wedding for a friend of mine, and she wants me to plan the entire wedding. I have some ideas, but I would love some ideas from you. It is going to be outdoors, and the surroundings are that of a bamboo farm. It is a covered gazebo type area with picnic tables. Please help. Do I get rid of the tables and get wedding chairs and tables or do I keep them and work with that. The wedding is on July 19, 2003

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I would suggest that you keep the picnic tables, so that you can keep the feel of the place. Work with it, not against it. Sounds like it's quite an original place, so you might want to stay away from typical wedding chairs, etc. You might want to decorate the tables with willow baskets, filled with wild flowers or something like that. Hope that helps! Sara

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I am getting married in Mid May and having an outdoor wedding in the park with the big white tent. I found miedium sized galvinized tall flower vases in the garden section of a discount store "Big Lots". They were $1.99 each. For flowers, I've ordered spring bunches from my local grocery store. They sell them for 3 bunches for $10.00. I will also be using galvanized watering cans to put flowers in . Our wedding & reception is an afternoon event, so with it being in the park, I thought a "garden-theme" would be appropriate!

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I am getting married on May 25 in an outdoor wedding. The easiest way I have found to decorate is to use silk flowers. Because they will not wilt as fast as live ones will. You should plan to use alot of flowers to make the outdoors come alive. I am getting married right down on the Ohio River. So I have a beautiful background, but there is a problem with all the snow we have had. I also plan to use a white fountain that I have found at a local rental shop. Try to use inexpensive ways to make my wedding day a huge celebration of my love to my husband-to be. You should also try to rent some tents incase of rain. You maybe would want to try some different kind of colors I was going to use the color of peach, but it just blends in use a color that will make your bridesmaids and flower girl look outstanding.

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
I recently attended a wedding outdoors in a tent.... The tent was decorated with tulle, white lights, and flowers... Very beautiful.

I was also going to suggest the votives hung from the trees... Very nice in the evening hours...

What about hanging ivy garlands from the tree branches with flowers here and there for color or ivy garlands and ribbons from the tree branches... Depending on what time of year, you could replace Ivy with Autumn leaves or snowflake garland. (white lights would be great too if it will be evening.... Creating a "ceiling" of white lights above in the trees would be pretty.)

Even tulle draping from the tree limbs would be pretty.... Gathered here and there for effect....

Candlelabras...decorated with tulle and flowers...

Topiaries are pretty... And can vary in height to suit your needs...

Swags on the backs of guest chairs would be nice. These would be pretty inexpensive with some simple tulle and few flowers... (dried, silk, fresh, ribbon, etc...)

"Pew" bows placed on aise chairs would add a nice touch... Creating a garland to line the aisle would be pretty too...

Re: Need Ideas For Outdoor Wedding Decoration
Hello and good luck! You should try using lantern candles for a walk way or maybe even putting your own flowers together. It's cheaper and can look just as good. Me and my Fiance are getting married in Oct. And I was thinking about floating candles with orchads around them. Well good luck.
