IDEAS FOR SIMPLE BUFFETT

I am doing all my own wedding food for my special day August 9th 2003, I have a basic idea of what kind of food to lay out but any ideas would be appreciated, also any ideas on dressing up a buffett, I am on a tight budget but still want my food tables to look nice.
I AM IN THE UK.
I have heard the word tulle for decorating tables, this must be an american thing I have never heard of it, can someone please tell me what it is and if available in the uk.
Thanks for any help you give. Take care, God bless.

Re: IDEAS FOR SIMPLE BUFFETT
I don't know about the catering bit (I'd never be so brave as to plan the food myself!), but tulle is a fabric. It's the same sort of thing that your wedding veil is made out of, although the veil would be a finer material than the decorating stuff. It's a sheer fabric, comes in many colours, although white is popular for weddings. I've seen it in six inch rolls and 54 inch rolls. I've got some six inch rolls in ivory and royal blue that I'm going to use for wedding favors - get three or four mints or something similar and roll them up like you're rolling coins, tie the ends with a ribbon. Cheap and pretty.

Good luck with your plans!

Re: IDEAS FOR SIMPLE BUFFETT
Hi. See if you can get your hands on the book Catering Your Own Wedding by Michael Flowers and maybe someone else(I think). In that book are about 6 or 7 different set ups for receptions Formal, Backyard BBQ, Dessert ect. He has included recipes, shopping lists for 100, 200 and 300 people. It is set up that you recruit all of your famliy or friends and assign them certain things to take care of. Like you have your best friend be in charge of the rolls and you take her the ready to bake rolls you have bought and she bakes them. It splits the jobs up nicely or if you are doing alot of the stuff yourself (if you have that much refridgerator room) it can tell you what freezes well and how far ahead to start things. Hope this helps. Good luck!!!

Re: IDEAS FOR SIMPLE BUFFETT
My DF and I are getting married on July 26th this year 2003. There will be around 90 people and it is better to have too much food than not enough. So we are also doing our own food...with the help of an overly energetic aunt. Because our area is very hot in the summer we are having a "cold" buffet but lots of food. A variety of salads(6 diff kinds: Potato, Ceasar, greek, chinese, taco, tossed green), crackers and cheese and sausage(eg. Garlic, kolbassa etc), Veggie tray, fruit salad in a hollowed out watermelon, spinach dip in a bread bowl with bread pieces, Shrimp salad and chicken salad "puffs"(creme puff buns filled with the shrimp and chicken salad), Shrimp rings on ice with cocktail sauce, Sliced Turkey and Sliced ham, pickle and olive tray, Buns, condiments, dips, chips, pretzels mints etc. Dessert table. We will set it up in food stations..a different table for different things....eg....all fruit, bunches of grapes, the fruit salad in watermelon, a huge bowl of strawberries with a batch of whipped cream in another bowl....A bowl of cherries, peaches.etc...and just pile stuff high to make it look interesting. We will use empty milk crates and bricks under the table cloths to create different levels, more visually appealing than Slab food.....all flat. Because we won't be serving alcohol we will set up a juice bar table...LOTS of ice, various different fruit juices....more clear like white cranberry and white grape(less stains), orange and orange blends etc..and a lot of Sprite and ginger ale. Lemon, lime and orange slices and marachino cherries, bendy straws, and drink umbrellas. We are just using our imagination to creat a visually appealing buffet....pile the buns in linen lined baskets, use plant urns(new and clean and lined with a bowl) to hold fruit or whatever. There are lots of cheap and easy ideas..apples and pears and whole fruits can be used just for decor purposes..as well as lemons and limes...corner store flowers in second hand vases...all sorts of stuff. Depending on your theme..if you have one you could do just about anything. Hope this helps. Chris

Re: IDEAS FOR SIMPLE BUFFETT
Teresa, to dress up the tables a little more, you can add ivy or flower garlands and white christmas lights underneath or around the tulle. It looks beautiful.

Re: IDEAS FOR SIMPLE BUFFETT
Try looking in the Martha Stewart Weddings book. It has a lot of really good ideas, pictures, and recipes. She also has a website, www.marthastewartweddings.com . If you have a Wal-Mart near where you live, tulle is very cheap there. Only about $1.00 per yard here in the U.S. I think it would be comparable in the UK.
