Re: Funeral Poem
Tammy, I'm sorry for your loss. I did a search on Google for "Funeral poems" and turned up only a few things. Some religious, some not, but none exactly directed at the person. My aunt's funeral had this:

Remember Me

To the living, I am gone,
To the sorrowful, I will never return,
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea--
As you look upon a flower and admire it's simplicity--
Remember Me.
Remember me in your heart.
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me,
I will never have gone.

There was also the traditional Irish blessing (May the road rise up to meet you...). Best of luck to you and don't forget to light a candle in your grandmother's memory at your wedding...

Re: Funeral Poem
Tammy, I'm so sorry about the loss of your grandmother.

I hope this doesn't come out sounding wrong, because I know you mean well and want to say something meaningful at her funeral. But a poem (unless you wrote it yourself) is not really appropriate. You should write something from your OWN heart that is especially meant for your grandmother. Asking for poems from strangers on a message board to honor your grandmother just doesn't seem right. Just write from your heart. It doesn't have to be in poetry form, it doesn't have to be in any form. It just has to be from YOU.

Again, I am very sorry for your loss.

Re: Funeral Poem
Poems can be a wonderful addition to a Funeral Service. I have officiated over 30 funerals and have used many touching poems.
One that I use often is called "I'm Free".
You may email direct if you still need the poem and I will send it to you.
Blessings....

Re: Funeral Poem
FOR ROSIE:

The poem that you want is STOP ALL THE CLOCKS by WH AUDEN

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

Other nice poems to use at a funeral :

Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

Autumn Rain

Do not stand by my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints upon the snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain and
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am that swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

After Glow

I’d like the memory of me
To be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
Of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
Whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
And bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
To dry before the sun
Of happy memories
That I leave when life is done.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free
I’m following the path God has laid you see.
I took His hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To laugh, to love, to work, to play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way
I found that peace at the close of day.

If my parting has left a void
Then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
Oh yes, these things I too will miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full, I savored much
Good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all too brief
Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and peace to thee
God wanted me now; He set me free.
