Do you think I am over-reacting? My brother is getting married next October. He made it clear that my daughter (will be 6 1/2) and son (will be 4) are not invited . THere is a no kid policy... They don't want to deal with unexpected noise. These are very well behaved, mature kids for their age (not just saying this cuz I am their mother- I have been told so). Anyway, I am completely offended that he wouldn't want his own niece and nephew there to witness his marriage.
This is a tough situation.. For you and I am sure for him.. As they are his niece and nephew.. But children at that age are hard to keep a close eye on with so many people in the room.. With alcohol there do you want to risk they drink something they shouldnt be? EVEN if its a closed bar who is to say that they wont take a sip of yours or some one elses.. I know my kids help themselves to my cup of water/milk when ever they want a drink.. Its a lot easier to watch them with there are 4 people in the room compared to 50 or more..
For my wedding I plan to set up a play area.. Maybe you can talk to him about doing this so your kids can be a part of the big event... Which would be easier for you, and your Brother.
Like I said it is a tough call! I wish you both the best in what ever happens.. Just remember, this is his big day and he should be happy.. As I am sure you know already.
Sorry as hard as it is to hear- it's not bizzare. They have a vision for the type of day they want and children aren't a part of it, lots of people feel this way. The hardest part of getting married is planning the day you want without everyone else telling you what you should be doing. I am sure that they didn't decide on the no kids policy because they hate kids- so hire a babysitter and enjoy the day as well as you can to support your brother.
