The Aviano Connection
The passion for gelato and all things Italiano started on a visit to a little town called Aviano, Italy. This town sits at the foot of the Alps in Northeast Italy. From there it is only a ** minute train ride south to Venezia (Venice) and you step out into the heart of what a visit to this land is all about. On a visit to his sister, who was stationed at Aviano Air Base while serving in the USAF, Cedric Seamon made his way through numerous villages and was taken back by a few things along the way. It is hard to explain Italian culture in totality here, but imagine this: eating a * course meal as if you had all year, cappuccino, great fellowship with family and neighbors, pastries, wine, and of course, gelato. Tourists will quickly learn these * common signs: Pasticerria (pastry shop), Gelataria (ice cream parlor), and of course the Pizzeria, which all dominate the landscape. Italian ice cream (gelato) is so appealing to the taste buds that once you get used to having it, your expectations quickly change about frozen treats. Upon returning to the States from these visits, the vision was born for Venice Gelato in order to make gelato a bigger part of our American dessert menu.
These experiences cultivated a passion for all things authentic and Italiano. "The Aviano Connection" is about spreading this taste of Italy right here throughout central Alabama.
