John Arrufat (pronounced: Ah-rou-fot. Ancestry: Spanish) spent 25 years in the motion picture industry as a documentary cameraman and editor and later as a dialogue editor. In his career, (of 75 feature motion pictures, including such notables as Mission Impossible II) he won awards on Beauty and the Beast, Dracula, Rainbow Brite and Titanic. Three years ago, he turned back to his first love— that of writing and still photography and there has been no slow down in his momentum.

His wedding style is straightforward if not traditional. He does not draw attention to himself. He does not ask the men to jump or climb trees or hold the bride suspended in their arms.

He sees his job as responsible for documenting as completely, quickly and beautifully as possible, the special beauty of the wedding.

John also works as an assigned photographer for wedding studios and as a second shooter for independent wedding photographers who are very demanding.
When he contracts for himself, he likes to sit down with the wedding couple and work a package deal that is a custom fit for their needs. "We'll talk about how to save money."

What I am doing lately, is to take a more casual approach to getting the shots. Make them less posed. Some people refer to this as candid and spontaneous. I do not think of it that way. Certainly it is not candid. Candid means the camera was hidden. It is not spontaneous because there is nothing accidental about it.

This "look" shows a faint resemblance to what I call photo-fashion. It is the look of attractive people, beaming with confidence, knowing full well that there is a photographer nearby, but too busy enjoying themselves to be concerened with what he is doing- just look through Vanity Fair magazine and you'll get the idea of what I mean.
