Portrait Photographers

There is a magical innocence in a child's face that I am always drawn to. Children have their own personality and my challenge is to find out what it is and capture it on film. When I think of children, I think of fun. Children are much more likely to be comfortable in front of the camera when they're having fun. I have found that I can capture them in very natural expressions by just being silly with them. I'm just a big kid myself!

I began developing my photographic skills eleven years ago after the birth of my first daughter. My friends and family thought I had a knack for photography and after taking courses in fine art photography, lighting and darkroom techniques, I focused on black and white photography. Shortly thereafter, I entered the Potomac Life photography contest and earned First Place.

After a few years of working with the dramatic tones of black and white photography, I embraced color photography and hand colored portraits with a passion.

In 1996, after the birth of my third child, I opened Sue Harris Photography with a focus on black and white and hand colored portraits. My natural choice for specialties is children.

In February 1999 I studied Fine Art Giclee Printing under Jim Chamberlain. This is a digital process that creates unique portraits. I am so excited about the addition of watercolor prints to my product line. Watercolor prints are a wonderful combination of photography and painting and I invite you to come by the studio to see these unique pieces of art for yourselves.
