April Fool’s Day

April Fool’s Day

April fool’s Day; do we hate it or love it? Well, if you’re the type who enjoys pranking friends, family or even strangers, then it’s probably safe to say you love it. However, if you’re the “Poisson d’avril” or April Fish in this case, you may not be too fond of this all fool’s day. Many celebrate this day by pulling off some of the greatest hoaxes of their time. So how do you plan a party for this celebration?

Since April fool’s day is based on jokes, pranks, comedy and hilarious happenings, let’s stick with the theme of funny. Send out cheeky invitations to your friends. Plan to hold a contest that judges the best prank of the day; explain to your friends that if they want to participate they can either film their prank or stand up and share their prank story to be judged. The winner can take home a gift basket filled with customized cookies or cupcakes. The biggest “April Fish”, or fool, will have be blindfolded and ordered to swing at a large piñata filled with candy, or rather, choose something worse: flour or pickles or something.

Decorate with bright balloons or happy face balloons, silly string, streamers, and other props. Rent a dunk tank for the yard; place whoopee cushions under some of the seats and whoever sits on one has to visit the dunk tank. Provide an array of goodies and treats that look like real foods but are desserts; for example, chicken wings made up of rice krispy treats, brown sugar glaze, green licorice celery, and marshmallow ranch dip. Maybe to enhance the mood, hire some performers: clowns, jugglers, comedic magicians, impersonators, and face painters. Heck, maybe you’re making it a girl’s night and you want to hire a stripper, tell him to come costumed as a robber, and have him hold one of your friends hostage as a prank. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the imagination.

It’s Time to Go GREEN!

It’s Time to Go GREEN!

It is that time of year again, March 17, where not just the Irish but the Irish at heart participate in the St. Patrick’s Day parties, events and festivities. What was once originated as a religious day of feast in honor of St. Patrick himself has developed into a worldwide carnival reveling Irish culture with live music, dancing, face painting, shamrocks, parades, unique foods, Leprechauns and a mass amount of green.

So what types of decorations, entertainment and goodies should you get for your St. Paddy Party?

Well, besides the obvious exaggeration of green everything, what is St. Patrick’s Day without music? The bagpipe is a popular instrument in celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, not to mention the fashionable kilt we see typically worn by bagpipe players. We offer a number of musicians or bands that can enhance your St. Paddy party. Or maybe you are talented enough to play your own bagpipe; all you need is the costume.

How about that corned beef? The “traditional” meal of corned beef and cabbage is something you can prep yourself, but let’s let a caterer handle the food; while you sit back and drink your green beer in your garden of bright green chrysanthemums.

If you are planning to entertain children, hiring a character would be a good investment. In this case an oversized Leprechaun should do the trick. Or even better, line the floor with chocolate gold coins leading up to a giant green jumper or bounce house. That should do the trick. Don’t forget the party favors; every kid needs to take home treasure on St. Paddy’s Day.
