Jack Darmody began his photography career as an apprentice for industrial photographer Torchia, in the city of Fall River, Ma. Where he was born, raised and educated.

After four years of apprenticeship he moved to the West Coast, in Southern California where he managed a successful portrait studio.

In 1980 Darmody had relocated to the central coast of California, and met teacher and portraitist W. Doyle Bailey. Bailey had studied under the late great Photographer William Mortensen, in his Laguna Beach School of Photography. The subject: metal-chrome the process Mortensen created while living in the art village of Laguna Nigel. Metal-chrome is the chemical conversion of a black and white photograph to color using an local toning method, abrasin and art work.

Under Mortensen four mastered the process, of the hundred who studied with the master, Bailey being the one to teach it in his Paso Robles studio. Jack Darmody was taken with the look of the pictures and enrolled as a student.

One of only two of Bailes students to master the process, Darmody opened photographic arts studio and gallery in 1981 in the village of Cambria, California. The studio worked as a dual purpose to show the works of Darmody and the many photographers of the California central coast, and the same time allow Darmody the ability to work on his commercial photography. The works of famous photographers David Brooks, Shelby Stover, Bailey, and Dr. Richard Comen at the gallery as well as the visitors, proved an asset in the career of Jack Darmody.

Now living back on the east coast Jack Darmody operates from Fall River,Massachusetts and travels to any destination for assignments in portraiture, public relations, advertising, or wedding.

Simplicity, good lighting, and the ability to capture his subjects in a normal relaxed state is this photographers trademark.
