| Our performances range from African to modern jazz dance and from swing to hip-hop and break dancing. |
In 1992, Rainbow Tribe was formed to bridge cultural differences and foster a universal appreciation for dance in all its forms. Since its inception as a volunteer run and operated entity, this Boston-based inclusive contemporary jazz dance company has delivered fiercely intense, high-octane performances throughout the East Coast. Artistic director Mary Mazzulli Perry and her Leadership Team are a collaborative powerhouse of dance talent producing entrancing choreography that not only entertains, but also motivates audiences of all ages and nationalities.
The Company is a true representation of Boston’s rich diversity and ever-evolving culture. The Executive Leadership and members exemplify a broad diversity beyond race and ethnicity including a variety of body types, levels of training, experience and skills - thus overcoming common stereotypes of dance and dancers.
We strive to develop new, local choreography and choreographers and to reflect popular dance forms by presenting works in both artistic and informal arenas that draw from a variety of traditions. This, coupled with our diversity, hard work and commitment to a cause, affords us the opportunity to embrace and include our audience, celebrate our community’s richness, and positively affect at-risk, under-served and other-abled children and adults.
Now in its 13th year, Rainbow Tribe has grown steadily beyond the dance community and has since reached the mainstream primarily due to the mass appeal of its energetic performances. Rainbow Tribe’s strong community presence is maintained through its support of numerous non-profit associations throughout New England and its ever-expanding work within education.
Rainbow Tribe At Your Event...
There are several ways to work with us. For example, we can perform some of our choreographed routines to kick-off your event and then freestyle throughout the evening to keep the energy up. If you have a specific piece of music, idea or theme, we can create a new work for you from scratch. We can also teach the audience simple dances and moves to perform on the dance floor.
In the school environment, we typically do a lecture demonstration where we perform, speak about the Tribe, its history and members, answer the students' questions, and perhaps even teach them a short dance.
The rates vary according to several factors including the number of dancers needed/desired and the type of show. For instance, to custom create a piece for your event will likely cost more than bringing in a few dancers to freestyle. We do our best to work within your budgets.
