One World Rhythm events are activities that use percussion and other instrumentation to create an interactive musical experience for its participants. Unlike a typical drum lesson, emphasis for a rhythm based event is placed on accessibility rather than specific technique or style. A typical rhythm event is conducted in a circle, allowing all participants to easily see, hear and interact with each other. The circle also acts as a metaphor for equalness to the whole. Arthur Hull (considered to be the father of the Western rhythm based event movement) says it best: "The Community Drum Circle is a fun entry-level learning experience that is accessible to anyone who wants to participate.

Drum Circle participants express themselves collectively by using a chorus of tuned drums, percussion, and vocals to create a musical song together while having a great time." In rhythm based events the drum goes beyond a musical instrument and becomes a tool used to heal, unify and educate it's participants.

One of the biggest reasons community drum circles are so successful is that everyone loves to have fun, play and make music. Community drum circles transcend age, ethnic and social boundaries bringing everyone together in an environment of sharing and creative expression.
