I'm really enjoying LaVerne's CD. She sounds terrific. Wish more new artists could swing like that.

The Trio
Jazz Guitarist LaVerne Christie has played in various formats from solo to combo to big band to accompanist throughout Minneapolis/St. Paul, the San Francisco Bay Area and Las Vegas, where she now resides. Christie studied with classical guitar master Jeffrey Van and noted jazz professionals Mimi Fox and Randy Vincent. She also studied at The Jazz School in Berkeley. Christie's uncomplicated approach to jazz, her sense of swing, and appreciation for Brazilian music are evident in her arrangements. She pays respect to her jazz predecessors while appealing to new listeners through her interpretation of classic standards. Christie recently relocated to Las Vegas where she has become a valuable contributor to the revitalized Las Vegas jazz scene. The LaVerne Christie Trio is a guitar/upright bass/drums ensemble that plays straight-ahead jazz. LaVerne Christie is also affiliated with Caesar's Palace, where she enjoys playing solo guitar for private clients. Joining her on her debut CD, "East of the Sun/West of the Moon", is venerable drummer Mike Candito, whose vast array of accomplishments in fine arts, music, stage, radio, TV and film include stints with Nancy Wilson, George Benson and Roberta Flack. Classically trained bassist/cellist Mark Ruben has extensive credits in musical theater including "Guys and Dolls", "Fiddler on the Roof", and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". His versatile approach brings a fresh sensibility to jazz.

The eleven track CD features LaVerne’s smooth sounding instrumental finger-style jazz guitar. Accompanied by Mark Ruben (bass) and Mike Candito (drums), Christie & company revive a round of jazz classics by composer greats like Charlie Parker, Herbie Hancock, Monk, Jerome Kern, Gerry Mulligan and more. Highlights include a stellar cover of the Hoagy Carmichael classic, “Stardust”.
