Born in Brasil, Harry Pocius embarked on his photographic career one day in the early eighties. "I had a little extra money and really wanted to become a writer. So I bought a typewriter, and, on a lark, a camera". The attraction to the craft was instantaneous, and over the next decade he studied photography in wide and varied institutes. First with the Center for the Media Arts in New York City, then at the Defense Information School through the army, and attending Ohio University for two years before returning to New York. Back in the city, he attended the Art Student's League for two years. Harry's main photographic thrust had been commercial. Shooting for such magazines as Budget Living, Life and Time Out New York. Soon two new additions to Harry's family introduced a new photographic passion -- children. "As a kid I never babysat or took care of smaller children. I was amazed by my own children. Everything was new to them, everything was a challenge. I found myself connecting with them in fun and silly ways. I discovered a new and exciting "direction for me. One that allows me to share in the joy and discovery of families as they grow together."
