One of the highlights of the festival was the vocalist competition. This year's winner, Phil Jeffrey, wowed the audience with his charm and exquisite vocals. Phil is considered one of L.A.'s hottest talents, appearing at concerts, hotels, casinos, dances, festivals, parties, nightclubs, cruise ships, and countless other venues.

Phil Jeffrey will be performing in next year's jazz festival. He will be in the company of such artists as tonight's show band |Jack Sheldon, Ernie Andrews, and Herb Jeffries, just to name a few.

Phil Jeffrey Biography
Phil's musical rap sheet spans more than 40 years and includes acting, comedy, and singing. While still only a teenager. Phil started his professional career in the song and dance chorus of NBC's Jerry Lewis Show as one of the Doodle Town Pipers.

He then moved on to nightclubs and took his singing and comedy acts from one end of the country to the other, with stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York City, and Bayonne, New Jersey.

Our illustrious singer pounded the beat in a variety of nightclubs, lounges and speakeasies, appearing by himself and as the lead singer of the popular 60's singing group Thanx. This period culminated into one of his many achievements: portraying Annas in the original Broadway version of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar.

His change of venues made him hard to keep up with as he appeared in countless performances as guest vocalist with the Pat Longo Orchestra in a Tribute to Frank Sinatra. Phil was spotted at events such as private parties and weddings, at the mirage Hotel in Las Vegas, Shutters on the Beach, Loew's in Santa Monica, the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills, and as a Las Vegas Headliner for convention dates at Cesar's Palace, the Rivera, and the Las Vegas Hilton.

We were favored by a special guest, Phil Jeffrey, a frank Sinatra double. When the handsome chap, looking Frank in his forties, walked on stage in a beautifully tailored tuxedo, a hat tilted slightly to his right, a white kerchief, not orange, in his breast pocket, he was greeted with a warm welcome before he hit the first note of "All The Way," followed with "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "for Once In My Life," No doubt about it, here was Mr.s S. in his prime. Oh, Yes, I almost forgot-In his left hand was a Marlboro, not Carmel. Frank Always had a close rapport with musicians, and Phil seemed to share that amicable relationship also.

Few have tried to emulate the most compelling romantic male singer that American pop music has produced. Jeffrey does it with ease and authority. His personal feelings are injected into each song like Sinatra used to do, giving the audience a sense of intimacy. Sinatra was a master in giving added meaning to a lyric, and so does Phil.

Jeffrey has studied Sinatra carefully and has inherited many of his mannerism, such as, a tilt of the shoulder, a broad pearly smile, a wink to a classy less down front and stealing a line from when "The Entertainer Of The Century" was at the Sands Hotel with Count Basie, "how did all these people get in my room?"

Audiences, receptive to earlier performances, grew in scope and admiration when Phil recreated the great Frank Sinatra sound of the 50's when Ole' Blue eyes crooned in front of the Count Basie Orchestra. Phil's interpretation of the great American Songbook includes musical gems from the libraries of Tony Bennett, Bobby Darren, Joe Williams, and many others.
