In 1981 Elvira hit the scene hosting B-, sometimes C-grade horror movies for KHJ-TV, channel 9 out of Los Angeles. The host of Movie Macabre prior to Elvira was Seymour. Sadly he passed on, and the station set out to find someone who would take his place. They were looking for someone with lots of T & A (talent & ability) someone fresh, someone new, someone OUT THERE.
Enter...Elvira as the hostess with the mostest!
Her popularity was instantaneous and so was my adoration of her. My name is Ramona and I have been impersonating Cassandra Petersons character "Elvira" nearly as long as she has.
I met Elvira for the first time back in 1985 at the Orange Show fair grounds in San Bernardino. She stepped out of her limo and saw me standing there. She looked up at me and said: hey that's good.
You see she had been stuck in traffic and was running a little late. So when I walked around the side of the building just before her arrival. The crowd thought I was she and started running toward me. A security guard said to me, where's your limo? I looked a little confused and he said: wait a minute, you're not Elvira. He had me stay inside the ropes to keep the crowd away from me. So a few minutes later when her limo pulled up. I had the privilege of standing right there, as her driver opened the door for her.
About a month later I was able to meet her as myself out of costume at a Horror convention-taking place at the Ambassador hotel in LA. I gave her a lovely portrait of her self and she wrote to me the sweetest reply with her blessings in a thank you note (see my photos). I would be honored to actually become friends with Cassandra. I understand she is looking for a sidekick to help her out with her gigs...
Pick me! Pick me!
Of course I would like to meet people here on myspace who love Elvira as much as I do. Impersonating Elvira is like being a Disney Princess, sort of. You know it's like when you go to Disneyland and get to meet the characters themselves. Whether you are young or just young at heart, everybody loves Elvira. It is my thought that Elvira's' charm and mass appeal is due to the fact that her very essence encompasses three of my favorite characters of all times. She is ditsy and fun like Marilyn Monroe. She is quick with her wit and full of one-liners like Mae West, and she is sexy as hell like my favorite animated personality Jessica Rabbit.
It has been said that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. So I figure if I do a stand out job of emulating Elvira, I'm bound to wind up with a great fan club following of my own. I can't help it I like the attention just as much as she does.
