The Gypsy Folk Ensemble is an ethnic and folk dance performing company based in Los Angeles, California which was formed in 1978 to preserve, perform and teach traditional folk dances from countries around the world.

One of our primary goals has been to use dance to foster awareness and appreciation of other cultures and peoples. Over the years, the company has built a solid reputation for professionalism and excellence.

GYPSY has been presenting school assemblies in California for over 25 years and is a member of the Arts Community Partnership Network (ACPN) with the Los Angeles Unified School District.

GYPSY has performed thousands of shows in theaters, festivals, schools and libraries, and has appeared on television and in feature films. GYPSY is also involved in the teaching of ethnic dance to children and adults and maintains its own dance studio, the Gypsy Camp Ethnic Arts Center.

We perform the exciting and exuberant folk dances of Europe, America, the Middle East and Polynesia. The artists are all professional dancers with wide experience in stage, educational, business, and party settings.

Gypsy has been a fixture in dance entertainment and education in Los Angeles and Southern California for more than 25 years

Gypsy has presented hundreds of programs at businesses, church and civic festivals, conventions, clubs, shopping malls, weddings, and private parties. The company has performed throughout Southern California from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego.

School Assemblies & Workshops
The Gypsy Folk Ensemble presents a choice of six different international dance assemblies suitable for all grades. All shows feature four dancers in authentic costume and include audience participation and an educational narrative. Our fees are $500.00 for a single 45 minute assembly, $850.00 for two assemblies at the same site, and $1200.00 for three assemblies.

The Gypsy Folk Ensemble is a member of the Arts Community Partnership Network (ACPN) and has been part of the program since its inception. The ACPN is a program instituted by the Arts Education Branch of the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) to help bring the arts to Los Angeles area students. See our Comprehensive Dance Package for more details of our program. We are accepting bookings now for the 2011-2012 school year.

Gypsy works in public and private schools throughout Southern California including Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange County, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego so even if your school is not part of the LAUSD, you can still take advantage of our school assemblies, workshops and our Comprehensive Dance Package. We can adapt our material and presentation to suit your school's needs and budget. The company occasionally makes tours to the San Francisco Bay area and elsewhere in California and the Southwest United States - contact us for more information on tour schedules and fees.

Library Presentations
The Gypsy Folk Ensemble offers a wide variety of shows that can be performed at libraries. Two or four dancers in colorful and authentic costume present the dances along with an educational narrative and an opportunity for the audience to participate by learning and joining in on a dance.

See our List of Seasonal Shows for some examples of our library presentations. Some special favorites for libraries are Dances of Polynesia for the Summer, our Mexican Celebration for Cinco de Mayo or Mexican Independence Day, and the International Holidays show for December.

Our current standard rates are $175 for two dancers or $300 for four dancers for a 45-minute presentation.

GYPSY is sensitive to your programming needs; just let us know what you want and we can customize our library shows to fit a special subject or theme. As well as serving Los Angeles city and county libraries, Gypsy also presents programs in libraries in Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, Orange County, San Bernardino and Riverside, and the San Diego area.
