Two become One. Your wedding is one-of-a-kind and the photos you receive from me will reflect that. What makes weddings fun, and challenging, for me to photograph is to come into an unknown situation and find your personality – what sets you apart from everyone else – and bring that to the forefront.
In addition to the photojournalistic "real time" feel of your wedding day, time will be spent to create portraits that show the love that brought you together to become husband and wife. In the years to come, you'll have a treasure to show your kids, to show your grandkids. This is for life, this is for love.
I've raised four kids, so I've got eyes in the back of my head! I can anticipate what's coming next and be there when it happens. Anyone can snap a picture. Not everyone can convey the feeling that was going on at the moment. That's what you want to remember...the looks, the touches, the laughter, the special relationships that all come together to make this day yours for all time.
I enjoy people - from every walk of life. My husband and I are regular travelers to many international destinations, and relating to people is what we do most. Because of that, I feel very comfortable with new people and new situations and readily establish relationships. When I photograph weddings, my interaction with the bridal couple is really important. I see them as the individuals that they are, so my aim is to serve their vision of what they want from a wedding, and stay true to their personality rather than going through the motions of only fulfilling a photo requirement, or making a statement about my photography. Even though the bulk of my wedding business is for couples coming to Hawaii to get married rather than the ones who already live here, we manage to get to know one another through the back and forth correspondence as well as a pre-wedding meeting. We stop being strangers pretty quickly, and I think that shows in the photography.
I work with an assistant who helps me with the lighting. Off-camera flash helps make photos beautiful, so I use a studio-type strobe for the most part when a flash is warranted. During the wedding ceremony I remain unobtrusive, never use a flash, and honor the dignity and sacredness of the vows that are being made.
