Robert's Music and Movement Party combines creative play and movement: often marching, jumping or dancing. One song mixes a bedtime lullaby with a rock and roll jumping song. In another, the ants go marching into a spider and then must duck and hide.

Robert alternates sitting and standing, high energy and tranquility, music and comedy, singing and moving, well-tested original material and old favorites. His material masquerades as pure entertainment but is also aimed at teaching basic music competency, rhythmically and tonally.

One of the singing/movement pieces for slightly older children challenges them to be able to sing "Yes" in one special place in the song, and "No" in another. Movement is introduced, as the children jump forward with "Yes" and backward with "No." The results are playful as the children advance, forcing Robert back, and then retreat, allowing Robert to recover.

Robert The Guitar Guy (Robert Markowitz) is a children's singer, guitarist, songwriter, educator, and recording artist. Robert’s repertoire includes over 75 children’s songs and he has recorded three CD’s. His style is to get on eye-level with your child and convey his delight in musical expression.

Robert’s latest CD, DON’T SNEEZE CHOO-CHOO TRAIN won the iParenting Media Award and was reviewed favorably by School Library Journal. His first album, MOVING TO THE BEAT was a CD Baby Children's Pop Editor's Pick. Out of thousands of children's songs on CDBaby.com, his "Bossanova Boo-boo" was chosen for CD Baby's 12-song compilation album in 2003.

Robert has performed extensively for the international children’s retailer Pottery Barn Kids at their stores in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.

School Library Journal called his latest album “fun, varied, and upbeat.” Hot off the Griddle magazine called Robert’s music "imaginative" and "hilarious."

Robert has developed a method of musical play with kindergarten and pre-school children incorporating music, rhythm, movement, humor, role-playing, storytelling and props which makes his performances fun for children and adults alike.

For a grade school audience, Robert leads a costumed cast (chosen from the audience) through an action-packed performance of a musical story designed to allow the cast to shine, and the audience to laugh. Each musical story deals with a character education theme. The vibrant antics of the children on stage encourage the children in the audience to participate.

Robert holds a BA from Connecticut College and a JD from Duke University. He has taught literacy-through-music in the NYC public school system as well as music & movement in the Portchester Public School System.

He lives with his wife and daughter in South Salem, New York.

"He has performed in the summer and the fall, but the time of year did not matter, everyone comes out for him. A beautiful summer day? Everyone takes time out to attend Robert the Guitar Guy's programs. All of the programs were for preschoolers, and the children and the caregivers were completely engaged during the hour Robert the Guitar Guy was performing. Robert played wonderful songs that the children loved and they responded enthusiastically to his prompts for movement: jumping, dancing, and clapping. Robert's enthusiasm and the children's happiness is contagious: adults clap and tap along with the music. I would not hesitate to recommend Robert the Guitar Guy for a preschool program at any library."
Laura Schwemm, Head Children’s Librarian, Wilton , CT

"He has continued to delight our large audiences of children and adults with his voice, his guitar, and his personality."
Deborah White , Children’s Librarian, Westport , CT

"His command of his material and his obvious love for music had a wonderful effect on the audience. When the show was over we heard the kids commenting on how much fun they had and the parents giving their voice of approval with nothing but positive comments about the show."
Joanne Grumman, Librarian, Bethel , CT

"You involve the children totally in the make believe you create. Your guitar work is exquisite!"
Rosemary Rasmussen, Head Children’s Librarian, White Plains, NY
