A swirl of silk veils... the mysterious chime of finger cymbals... the allure of arabic rhythms. After her first encounter with Middle Eastern dance, Malia was enamored and thus began her journey to become the highly skilled, consummate dance artist she is today.
Malia began her training in raqs sharqi, commonly known as belly dance or oriental dance, while studying biology at the University of Washington. She quickly discovered a natural talent for hip articulation and rhythm recognition, and soon joined the local Middle Eastern dance company Khan el Khalili. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science, she pursued a solo career in dance, drawing on her knowledge of human physiology to aid in her studies.
She has since been featured in several local venues, stage shows and charity events, was a member of the Blue Lotus Dance Company, and is gaining recognition as an event producer, marked by the unprecedented and over-sold show Hathor Unveiled. Her innovative ideas and professional demeanor continue to put her on the forefront of Seattle's belly dance community, while her performances are continually described as powerful and inspirational. Malia combines the knowledge and discipline required of life science studies with her passion and love of dance to create an effortless flow of movement and musicality.
Besides dance, Malia is mother to two beautiful children and wife to an incredible man. She is assistant organizer to a local Mom's Group, an advocate of dark chocolate, and bakes a mouth-watering key lime pie.
