What is Electroluminescence?
ElectroLuminescence (EL): Is defined as direct conversion of electric energy to light energy by a solid phosphor subjected to an alternating electric field.

EL is a relatively new technology being employed in more and more devices everyday! EL technology normally takes the form of "wires", "panels", or "Strips."

An organic phosphor is sandwiched between two conductors. When an AC signal of sufficient voltage and frequency is applied to the conductors an electric field is formed across the phosphor. This causes the phosphor to emit visible light.

Most of the phosphors employed in the technology are only capable of emitting white or pink light. Colored "overlays" are used to expand the color spectrum. Overlays are available in several of the most common colors.

EL panels and wires have very unique features: They produce almost no heat and are paper thin (.*** thick.) They produce a soft neon like glow, with no hot spots such as filament bulbs or LED's. They are easy to cut and shape with a sharp knife or scissors. They can be bent (carefully) and formed around angled or round objects!

EL is sold under several trade names: "Cool Wire", "Neon Wire", "EL Lamp", and "Luminous Film." Regardless of the name, the technology is the same.

Throughout these listings the "Power Supplies" we refer to are actually "Inverters" which take the small *vdc - *.*vdc battery voltage and increase/invert it to the approximately **+ VAC *Khz voltage required to "light" the EL panels or EL wires!
