' Ano ' ai! No ' oukou ka welina aloha! I'm Ried Kapo Ku. If you would like to go further into my psyche, please visit my website at kapoku.com. Otherwise, in short, I am a contemporary and traditional Hawaiian musician/composer/recording artist based in the Los Angeles area. I've been a student of the Hawaiian language for the passed ** years which allows me to perform anything from traditional Hawaiian chants to contemporary Hawaiian cha-lang-a-lang, and I do.
As a group, Na Mea ' Ai Manako (The Mango Eaters), consists of
me (vocal/guitar/'ukulele), Kawika Dacoscos (bass/vocals), Kimo
West (slack key/electric/steel guitars/vocals), and Maka ' ala Porth
(' ukulele/cajone/vocals). Our aim is to create an appropriate vibe,
be it a high energy, crazy fun time or a way, way, way melted-intothe-
background soothing sound. We offer a variety of musical
styles, Hawaiian and other, including ballad, rock, blues, country
and rock-a-billy. Possible combinations would include a solo
vocal/acoustic guitar/'ukulele, a duet (vocals, guitar, ' ukulele and
bass), a trio (vocals, acoustic guitar, bass, 'ukulele or
slack/steel/electric guitars). Of course, larger configurations are
possible adding percussion and/or other musicians for a larger
sound. Other services include: Hawaiian blessings, original
Hawaiian compositions and/or choreographed hula for special
occasions (upon inspiration only), slack key guitar (referral),
'ukulele lessons (Skype ready), hula dancers, beginning Hawaiian
language lessons.
I believe that is about all I have for you. Oh, don't forget to check out Kimo West, Southern California's own slack key recording artist at jimkimowest.com. Whatever you do, have fun and don't hurt nobody. My love to you all!
