Richard J. Carson is a Houston-based photojournalist specializing in digital photography for clients including Reuters, USA Today, Wire Image, Continental Airlines, Boeing, The Methodist Hospital, The Houston Astros, M.D. Anderson Hospital, Sony BMG, U.S. Newswire, and others.

His work has been published around the worlds in a variety of publications including Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, USA Today, and many more.

He has photographed major news and sporting events including the Superbowl, World Series, NBA Finals, U.S. Open Tennis, Summer and Winter Olympics, National Political Conventions and other major news events.

He also served 12 years as Deputy Director of Photography and staff photographer at the Houston Chronicle traveling extensively covering news, sports and feature assignments. He worked as Photographer and Photo Editor during the Houston Rockets 1994 and 1995 NBA Championships in Houston, New York and Orlando and was Photo Editor of the rockets commemorative books "Believe It!" and "Believe It Again!" His Houston Chronicle special assignments included: "Crying for Justice", winner of the 1997 Amnesty International media Spotlight award for coverage of Guatemala and El Salvador; which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in International Reporting, and "Black Gold, Broke Promises," a series about the unfulfilled potential of oil riches in Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico and Texas.

Since 1989 he has served as Adjunct Professor of Photography at the University of Houston School of Communications and holds a Master of Arts degree in photography from Sam Houston University.
