A 2006 graduate of Mooseburger Clown Camp in Buffalo, Minnesota, Sonnie and her younger sister Harrianne Johnson, who lives in Alabama, are clowns and face painters.

Moose Camp is owned and operated by former Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey clown Pricilla Mooseburger (Tricia Manuel), and she teaches Clown Arts Education along with friends she has known through many years traveling with the circus and clowning community. Pricilla made Sonnie's clown costume and is well-known for her artistic ability in costuming.

Sonnie has been taught by such greats as Christian clown Brenda Marshall, expert storyteller Mary Ann Porter, Marcella Murad (better known around the world as Mama Clown and creator of Silly Farm), Rex Nolen, and former Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey clowns Mooseburger, Karen Bell, Christopher Hudert, and Mark Renfroe.

Sonnie attends the International Face Painting Convention every year and has studied face painting with Marcella Murad, Mark Reid, Jenny, the Wolfe Brothers (Nick & Brian) and many others.
