Ohio Casino Fundraising Events
In November 2004, the Ohio Attorney General Petro issued a press release to raise the awareness of legal pitfalls associated with conducting games of chance without full knowledge of the law. That release led to over 200 calls from law enforcement officers, representatives of charities and the public asking for more detail on the legalities of conducting or participating in these events, Ohio's current Attorney General Richard Cordray reinforces that these guidelines are intended to help charitiesply with Ohio law, which will also insure that the majority of the money raised by the event will stay with the charity as the law is written. Kentucky Casino Fundraising Events
Charitable gaming is defined in the Kentucky Revised Statutes as bingo, charity game tickets pull tabs , raffles and charity fundraising events conducted for fundraising purposes by charitable organizations licensed and regulated under the provisions of chapter 238... Even casino-style gambling is permitted with a special license from Kentucky's charitable gaming regulatory agency, the Office of Charitable Gaming (OCG). Each charitable gaming organization is allowed four special licenses per year, two of which can be for full-scale casino gambling roulette, card games, dice games, etc. . Casino gambling sessions can last as long as six hours between noon and midnight of the same day.
Indiana Casino Fundraising Events
The first thing you need to consider when planning a gaming event is time. The application process to be able to host an event can take anywhere from four to eight weeks depending on the forms that need to be filed with the State of Indiana. So if you are planning on hosting an event next week and are just now reading this, it may be time to change your plans. In order to conduct a legal gaming event, your organization must meet certain criteria. You must be a bona fide educational, religious, senior citizen, veteran, or other civic organization, and must be tax-exempt under section 501 of the Internal Revenue Code. Additionally, your organization must also have been in continuous active existence for a period of at least five years, or affiliated with another qualified organization that has been in existence in Indiana for at least five years. If you are affiliated with a national charitable organization, you may also be eligible to host a charitable gaming event if certain criteria are met.
