Del's History
Great grandfather DeLucia made the earliest Del's soft frozen lemonade in 1840. During the winter in Naples, Italy he carried snow into nearby caves and insulated it with straw. When summer arrived and the local lemons were perfectly ripe he mixed their juice with just the right amount of sugar and snow. This produced a refreshing drink that he sold at the locale market. Fruit ices are popular in Europe and none is more loved then invigorating lemon juice treats that are thirst quenching and delicious.
Grandfather DeLuica brought the concept of Del's soft frozen lemonade to America at the turn of the century. Angelo DeLucia, his son, soon began working on a machine and a method to produce Del's soft frozen lemonade at a consistently excellent produce. In 1948, Del's frozen lemonade acquired its name and became the sole product sold at a little stand in Cranston, Rhode Island.
Sixty years later Del's soft frozen lemonade has grown into over forty-five franchises nationwide. Now Rhode Island's award winning summertime secret has hit the sunny and sultry beaches of Miami, Florida. The people of Miami-Dade can experience the same thirst-quenching phenomenon experienced by millions.
