Harpists

If it is a harpist you seek to play soothing sounds for your birthdays, weddings, reunions, proms, or other unique affairs, Donna is a professional harpist that can entertain any crowd. Her repertoire is extensive from Beethoven's Ode to Joy to Puccini's O Mio Babbino Caro . She performs with various ensembles or as a soloist. Donna plays hammered dulcimer and harp in a group called Braidstream, along with a few other musicians Jeff Johnson on the classical guitar, Rita Hayes on the flute and Paul Ghosthorse, cello. With the Blue Ridge Harp Ensemble, Donna plays pedal harp. She performs with Classic Touch, a dulcimer and classical guitar duo. As a soloist, she can either perform with a hammered dulcimer, a Celtic harp or a pedal harp.
She has studied both music and speech pathology at Cleveland State University in which she received her masters degree. Music studies there included vocal and classical guitar which triggered her professional music career in the 70's. Donna participated as a church musician for 6 years where she also began to learn to play the hammered dulcimer. Donna actually began transcribing music from both the classical guitar and some other instruments for the dulcimer because there wasn't much made for the dulcimer at that time. Donna began to study the Celtic harp in 1994. From there she gradually moved to the classical pedal harp.
I love both the harp and hammered dulcimer and they have taken over my life! I have a weakness for beautiful melodies, whether classical or folk, and love to bring these sounds to people who have previously been unfamiliar with these instruments.
