History of the castle

John Hays Hammond Jr., built this magnificent and authentic looking castle between the years of 1926-1929. He generously constructed it as a wedding present for his wife, Irene Fenton Hammond. Hammond Castle houses the magnificent art collection of John Hays Hammond Jr, featuring Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance artifacts. The attention to detail is impeccable, including vaulted ceilings, stone towers, tapestries, and priceless one of a kind artifacts from all over the world. John Hammond was one of America's premier inventors. His most important work was the development of remote control via radio waves, which earned him the title, "The Father of Remote Control." The castle also includes a drawbridge, a great hall, vaulted ceilings, a library, laboratory, knight armor, weaponry, secret room and an inner and outdoor courtyard. Hammond also added some unique and exceptional features to the structure such as an indoor pool that can be drained with a flip of a switch and filled with sea water, rooms with hidden doors, secret passageways, a library with a whispering ceiling and an inner courtyard that was once outfitted with special overhead pipes and wiring to simulate rain or twinkling stars.
