Kahina Asurah, native of Kiev, Ukraine, is a professional belly dance artist. Kahina performs Egyptian cabaret and modern Egyptian dance. She has performed across the tri-state area to name a few venues: the opening act for concert of RENOWN ROCK STAR Michael Angelo Batio at Rp McMurphy's, PA BALLY'S CASINO in Atlantic City, NJ the MERCEDES BENZ Grand Opening in Wilmington, DE American Amarian Syrian Society, Allentown, PA Sophia Restaurant in Margate, NJ Rain Lounge, Old City in Philadelphia Mirch Masala Restaurant in Bensalem, PA and Rakkasah Festivals. She also is appearing often at a number of restaurants such as: Marrakesh, Fez Restaurant and Sphinx Café in the Old City section of Philadelphia Casablanca Restaurant in New Castle, DE she regularly performs at Amazir Restaurant in Philadelphia.
Kahina has appeared on the MIND TV program in the history of Belly Dance section. Her articles are published in the MOSAIC magazine, issue 52, London,UK and SHIMMY magazine, issue 9,US.
Her dance style is influenced by the some of the best Raqs Sharqi teachers such as Najia, Valerie Rushmere, Aszmara, Jehan Kamal, Orit Maftsir, Lydia Tzigane and Alla Kushnir. She has studied the art of Middle Eastern dance with renowned teacher, dancer and researcher - Sahra Saeeda Kent. Kahina holds certificates in Journey Through Egypt Level 1 and 2, and Sahra-Style Cairo Oriente .
She expresses that it is difficult to explain her fascination with dance in a simple, linear way. One can start by discussing the feminine, spiritual or self-expressive side of dance, and one can mention that most of the ancient civilizations used dance as a ritualistic tool formunicating with the divine but she thinks that dance also helps us to understand our roots, the world around us, and ourselves .
Kahina started dancing early in her childhood, while spending summers in the Black Sea region and in the Steppes, where she stayed with her grandmother. Her first memory about dancing is the vision of caravans of gypsies wearing colorful skirts, singing and dancing. Their bodies moving in hypnotic motions, bestowing spells on those around them. She reveals: I am certain it cast a spell on me then and now, much later in time, and on a different continent, I still feel the power of that enchanted potion .
Beside studying the art of Middle Eastern dance, Kahina earned a graduate degree in anthropology. She travels (and has been living in some countries) around the world to achieve a deeper understanding of dance, its cultural significance and its sacred and primordial nature.
Kahina will work with you personally to customize an event to your preferences and will do her best to ensure that you and your guests have an enjoyable time. She will be available personally formunication with you by phone or via emails. She loves dancing at private events such as birthday parties, family gatherings, engagement, graduation parties, holiday celebrations, grand-openings, festivals, and cultural presentations where she encourages audience participation. Due to her professional standards and personal preferences she will not appear at all-male parties or bachelor parties.
