Matthew Phelps has performed at hundreds of events including weddings, funerals, birthday parties, political campaign marches, pub crawls, and anniversary celebrations. Phelps has taught dozens of students to play the pipes in the northeast as well as in Alaska, North Carolina, and Canada.
Matthew Phelps began playing the pipes at eight years old and was promoted to Open or Professionalpetitive status in 1999. Phelps is a current Professional member of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association, the sanctioning body for pipers in this area.
Weddings
I most often am asked to play as guests arrive at the wedding venue and then again as they depart. I can also play during the service for processional and/or recessional if desired. Specific tune requests are not a problem, providing you give me enough notice to find or transpose the music and that the piece fits on the bagpipe scale.
Funerals
As a full-time professional musician, I m available to play funerals at short notice. I generally play as people arrive and depart from the church. Then again as they arrive at the cemetery. At the very end of the graveside service I generally play Amazing Grace, unless a specific alternative tune is requested. I m happy to modify what I do to meet your particular needs.
Other Events
I m always open to playing surprise parties, pub crawls, and other special occasions. Contact me if you have an event in mind that you think might be better with a piper.
