Maya de Silva Chafe, Artistic Director, Flamenco Revolucion, BFA in Theater/Dance UNM. Born in Southern California and schooled in New Mexico, Maya came to New York in 1986 and began dancing flamenco with Danza Espana, Maria Benitez, Carlota Santana, and Flamenco Latino including shows at The Joyce, DTW, the Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center, Kaatsbaan, Santa Fe Stages and Boston Pops.
She has recently produced her company "Flamenco Revolucion" in 2 seasons Off B'way, and at Jacobs Pillow, been featured in a national print ad for Verizon, performed in Nilo Cruz' play "Lorca con un Vestido Verde" with Repertorio Espanol in New York and Texas and was awarded a scholarship to study at the Heeren Foundation of Flamenco in Spain for 4 months in 2000.
Maya teaches at Flamenco Vivo and Rod Rodgers Dance Studios, was on faculty 10 years at Rutger's University, 2 years at Ballet Hispanico and has taught 15 years for Carlota Santana at innumerable NYC Schools and in the Flamenco Vivo studios. She is a Sponsored Artist of The Field and has received grants from LMCC and NYFA and performs every Tuesday at Xicala, 151 Elizabeth St.
