The Turnaround plays jazz standards, ballads, bebop and bossa nova. We are a professional ensemble featuring piano, upright bass, jazz drums and tenor saxophone, and are available as a quartet or a trio. We are musically versatile and can also play other styles like Latin jazz, blues and soul-jazz; an additional vocalist is available on request.

Our band prides itself on our professionalism and the quality of our music-always on time, always well-dressed, and always in tune. We are easy to work with and try hard to accommodate all the needs of the event and the client. Excellent references are available.

We have extensive experience in weddings, corporate events, gala occasions, private parties and fundraisers. Our group has played at the Westin St. Francis, the Claremont Resort in Berkeley, the Trocadero Clubhouse at Stern Grove, the South Light Court of San Francisco City Hall, and the Chateau de Vie Winery in Calistoga, among other venues. *****My husband and I hired the Turnaround Jazz Trio for our wedding, and they were everything that other reviewers have raved about: easy to work with, helpful in figuring out what configuration of musicians would work best for us, straightforward about their fee and their needs the day of. And to top it all off, they're amazing musicians. Alexey's experience and professionalism took some of the stress out of wedding planning for me. And at the end of the day, Turnaround was one of the high points of the day for us and many of our guests. Can't recommend them highly enough.

***** I recently hosted a Charity Event and needed a Jazz Band. Luckily, I found the Turnaround Jazz Quartet using Yelp. I was blown away by the great reviews. They were even better than expected. They truly live up to their 5 star rating. Professional, sounded fantastic, entertaining and the singer (Raquel) was amazing!! They helped turn our event into a success. I would recommend them to everyone. I will definitely use them at my next event. Thank you for doing such a great job!!!!

***** You only have ONE shot with your wedding music so the stakes are high. A mediocre band can throw a wet blanket on the whole affair and a great band can add an ephemeral air to the joyous day.

Quick review: the Turnaround Jazz Quartet and Trio are fantastic musicians, highly professional, very easy to work with, perfectly ethical with no surprises, and helped make our wedding the beautiful night to remember that it was.

Details: May 2009. Finding professional services online is a little scary. With Craigslist or Yelp you can sort through websites and reviews but you are never really sure what you are going to get. I did all my communication with Alexey (the drummer and, it seems, person handling the business end of things) by email. We discussed what arrangements to have at the ceremony, the dinner, and the reception, what kind of music to play, when to take breaks, etc. They were extremely flexible (and inventive), providing impromptu interludes needed for a last-minute ceremony change (nod to the pianist here).

As for the day of the event, they were hardly noticed arriving, setting up, moving (twice), and taking breaks. They played at the perfect volume, meshed well together, and really seemed to be having as good a time at our wedding as all the guests. They played enthusiastically right up until the end of the night, accommodating requests and even backing a singer or two from the crowd.

When I have a party where a jazz band is needed, I won't hesitate to call Turnaround Jazz again. As far as our wedding went, they were fantastic. There are a lot of things to stress about when planning an event, including the music. If you want to remove a big load of potential worry AND have some great jazz, call on these guys.

***** I feel badly that I have not done this before. We were married last August in San Francisco which, as we live in LA, was a destination wedding. If you have ever done this, or are about to, you know or will find out exactly how much work and stress there is Finding a florist, venue, etc. Well, we knew we wanted music at our reception, something smooth, classy, modern but classic. We had a small wedding, about 50 people, and knew we wanted music that served both as background music and dance music. We looked, emailed and listened to so many soloists and groups, then my wife found Turnaround Jazz.. We exchanged emails with Alexey several times and spoke on the phone, and he was extrelemely polite, calm and understood exactly what we were looking form. Also, he worked with us so the music, their band size and the time fit into our budget. So many other groups lied to us,would not work with us and could not quote a solid price, nor did they really sound as good as Turnaround Jazz, which ultimaltey is the most important. We hired the trio, bass piano and drums. They dress professionally, and as soon as we walked into the reception and heard them playing I knew not only had we made the right decision but the music just added the absolute perfect element to the reception. They also learned our first dance song and translated it so it worked with a jazz trio.
I cannot say enough good things about Turnaournd Jazz. Music: fantastic; Flexibility; excellent; Overall: just incredible. You should seriously consider this group before you sign with another, you will benefit in so many ways. They will prove to be an invaluable addition to your event, whatever it may be.
k you Alexey and Turnaround Jazz!

***** Five stars? How about 10 stars people! They were on time, neat, gracious, professional, friendly, polite, approachable, and I really would give them a perfect TEN. I coordinated my parents 50th wedding anniversary celebration, researched 8 jazz groups for the 130 person event and finally booked "The Turnaround Jazz Quartet". My mom grew up with swing in the 40's and my father is a Modern Jazz maven so I had to get this right. Alexey's group is fantastically tight and for any solid jazz set, that is everything! This party my brother, two sisters and I threw for our folks is still being talked about years after and The Turnaround Jazz set was a major part of it. Two event planners were guests and just stood in front of me shaking their heads saying, "I can't believe we haven't booked these guys. Where did you find them?!" Well, you're online now, check out their demo, book The Turnaround Jazz Quartet & Trio and you will shine the way we did. Talk about a breath of fresh air! Thank You Alexey. You guys were pin perfect.

***** We hired the Turnaround Jazz to play at our wedding reception. They were fantastic. Our guest were impressed with them and asked if the the trio had a CD. They showed up early to set up and were able to find the music to play a song we requested on short notice. When they played the song, it was perfect. They also accommodated our request to play longer. Alexey was great about responding to all inquiries and finalizing details for the event.

***** I found these guys on Yelp (go figure), and decided to have them play at our office holiday party. They were Awesome! I can't imagine them not being there, they totally set the mood! Alexey was super friendly (as was the whole quartet), they did a great job of deciding when to take breaks, and they even played a few extra songs past their allotted time. Definitely worth checking out!
