My name is Jennifer Perez, and I am a classically trained high soprano, 24 years of age. I just graduated this May (2011) from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree in Music: Vocal Performance. I have had the privilege of having such wonderful mentors in music as Sam Shepperson (vocal instructor and tenor soloist), Marilyn Tyler (internationally acclaimed opera artist) and Bradley Ellingboe (Director of Choral Activities and well knownposer of choral music). I have performed lead roles in many children's operas with the Sante Fe Opera'smunity Outreach programs, directed by John Bradley, and took the role of Gretel for Opera Unlimited's production of Hansel & Gretal a few years ago, under Cyrus and Jane Hoffman. I have also performed in some of the operas directed by Marilyn Tyler at the University of New Mexico, including Samuel Barber's The Old Maid and the Thief, in which I played the role of Letitia, and a shortened version of Jacques Offenbach's Tales of Hoffmann, in which I played the role of Giulietta.
Choral activity is a huge love of mine as well. I have sung many solos for the UNM Concert Choir directed by Bradley Ellingboe, and last Summer, I received a scholarship to join the choir in Italy to sing the soprano solos for Mozart's Requiem. Another prestigiuos soprano solo of this caliber I had the honor of performing was in Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, conducted by Ryan Hatch, a grad student at the University of New Mexico. In January of this year, I participated in the 67th NMMEA All-State Intercollegiate Choir, a choral workshop and performance lead by world reknowned choral conductor, Andrew Megill, and was selected to sing the soprano solo in one of the performed selections, titled A Jubilant song by Dello Joio. I have also sung for various banquets representing different departments of UNM.
Ultimately, I hold a favorable amount of vocal training and experience. Most of what I do is in the operatic or light operatic style, however, I have experimented with soft jazz and lounge music a little and I love giving new things a try. So please, don't hesitate to request something if it is in my range and my voice feelsfortable with it, I'll do it! I have had experience singing at weddings, receptions, winery openings, religious venues, and award ceremonies, and I would love to keep this list going so please contact me if you're in need of a singer. I absolutely love what I do and I believe that shows through performance.
