5 Years Anniversary Party Theme - Log Cabin

For our fifth anniversary, my husband Jason planned an extra special celebration for us. I'm not one to brag, but I just have to tell you about it.

When I came home from work the day before our anniversary I was not expecting anything. It was just another day. I almost didn't see the card, propped up against our fruit basket in the center of the dining room table. I read the card. It simple read, "Come to the bedroom." Thinking Jason was feeling unusually frisky I smiled and slinked into our bedroom.

To my surprise there was table for two with candles and dinner waiting. Jason was sitting at it grinning at me. I shook my head smiling at him, "Honey this is a great surprise, but our anniversary is tomorrow."

He nodded and motioned for me to sit. As I took my place I noticed I noticed our suitcases were sitting beside the bedroom door. Jason doesn't have much of a poker face and he smirked when I gave him a curious look. "Are we going somewhere?" I asked.

He couldn't keep me in suspense any longer and told me he was planning to take me to a log cabin at a resort in the mountains for a few days. He appologized for spoiling the surprise, but he changed his mind about keeping it a secret until we got there like he originally planned. I was speechless! Tears of happiness welled up in my eyes. He reached across the table, took my hand and kissed it. This trip would be so special. I was already getting tingly thinking about our weekend together!

We left in the morning, and it only took a few hours before we arrived at the beautiful mountain resort. There were about ten cabins, about a hundred feet apart surrounding a small mountain lake. We checked in at the main building; everyone was very friendly. The cabin was charmingly decorated; it was so warm and rustic. It had a king-sized bed and a large plush, couch facing the rock fireplace. It was large enough for two to snuggle up on. The cabin even had a small kitchen and dining table. We unpacked a few things then went exploring.

We decided to rent a row boat to tour the lake. It was so romantic. Jason brought the oars in when we were in the middle. I leaned my back against him. We sat staring at the sky forever, it seemed. It was so peaceful. We didn't have to say a word. After a time, we were getting hungry, so we started back to shore, but Jason dropped one of the oars overboard. He leaned over the side of the boat trying to keep it from floating away. He leaned so far over, he fell out! I laughed at him so and he pulled me in after him when I was trying to help him get back into the boat. Jason made a fire in the fireplace when we got back to the cabin and we cuddled until both of us were dry.

We walked to the local market and bought some food to make sandwiches and breakfast the next morning. We bought some apples, stawberries and some Sebastiani wine to drink. We had a picnic on the lake and took a leisurly hike.

That evening Jason and I ordered a delicious dinner of fillet mignon with red roasted potatoes, and French cut green beans with mushrooms. We enjoyed another romantic evening by candlelight with lots of laughter and some champagne to toast the past five years of happiness and the dozens to come.

The next morning I got up very early to take some pictures of the lake in the pale light of dawn. It looked so magical tinged pink and gold of the sunrise with a thin veil of mist hanging over the water. One was so beautiful we had the picture enlarged and framed.

When Jason got up, he made breakfast. It was only scrambled eggs with cheese, bacon and toast, but it tasted like a gourmet banquet. After breakfast Jason and I went to the main building to get some ideas of things to do from the concierge. He gave us at least a dozen brochures of local attractions. We decided to take a tour bus to see a historic town that was over a hundred years old. There were so many things to see and do there Jason and I had a hard time deciding what to do first. One of the things we did was take a ride on a restored old-time train. It was so much fun.

The next day we checked out of our cabin and went a few miles up the road for breakfast at a local restaurant famous for its pancakes. They were terrific. After that we took a hot air balloon ride. The view was spectacular and I took lots of pictures of the scenery, but my favorite is one of Jason with a view of the whole valley in the background.
We stopped for a picnic lunch beside beautiful waterfall where a creek tumbled over granite rocks into the lake. The weekend was wonderful. I can't remember the last time Jason and I just got away for a few days. I can't wait until our next anniversary.
