Gown Talk with the Girls

Host: And a big wedding welcome to all you brides-to-be. Thanks for surfing in for another installment of "Gown Talk". This is THE wedding gown question and answer site where it's all wedding planning, all the time. Today's special guest to answer the pressing wedding gown questions of the day is none other than wedding planner to the stars, Madame Leemon Chiffon. Welcome, Madame Leemon.

LEEMON: Thank you, darling, and air kisses all around. It is a true pleasure to converse with someone who walks the wedding walk daily. You are to brides and bridal gowns what Miriam-Webster is to dictionaries.

Host: Thank you and an air kisses right back atcha. So Madame Leemon, let's get down do it, shall we? The bride's wedding gown garners all the attention, but fashion and style seem to drop off the charts when it comes to the Maid of Honor and the Bridesmaids. What's a wedding planner to do?

Leemon: My dear, there's know reason that all your maid's dresses can't be fresh and fashionable. The key here is using one's imagination when it comes to fabric, cut, color and style. These days the maids' gowns are only as boring as you make them. Dresses, as an alternative, are tres haute and when they come in pinks and creams and you toss a few complimenting accessories, you're sure to have a wedding party that's dressed for success.

Host: Is there a gown or dress style that's a guaranteed "can't miss" for any gaggle of girlfriends?

Leemon: But of course, darling. My recommendation without hesitation is the all-purpose A-line dress. It's fitted and flared in just the right places to compliment most body types so you can't go wrong. I suggest a silky shantung number with a ruffle trim. And be daring with the color. I'm a big fan of contrast. Turquoise and Orange? Maybe Pink and Red? And I have to tell you my fave to rave is Apple Green with anything in the Crème family.

Host: Before we all make a b-line for the A-line, can we talk about those specific body type problems that sometimes plagues a few bridesmaids? Specifically there are those times when that South Beach Diet has yet to work its wedding party wonders. What to do about us gals who are a bit thick in the thighs or tummy? Are we forever stuck with plus-sized gowns?

Leemon: I say, "Embrace your thickness!" but find a gown or a dress that hides rather than accentuates. Vera Wang designer gowns aren't for everybody. Try a floor length gown with a built-in sash that can drape to cover the battle with the bulge. Or if you want to go the dress route, try a strapless number with a pleated skirt and ribbon trim. The pleats will mask the fuller hips and thighs while the strapless neckline will draw the eye upwards. But, tell your gal pals to make sure the pleats are of the flat front, pin-tucked style. Otherwise you could have a wedding party planner gasp for air as she sees a line of walking female lampshades. And obviously I love Chiffon for this make and model.

Host: And what, pray tell, do you suggest for us of the bustier persuasion? And for that matter, how about our sisters who missed out big-time on the "well-endowed" boat?

Leemon: Busty maids rejoice! I have the perfect solution. Think "V", as in V-neck. Choose a tiered dress, possibly organza with charmeuse trim, and you will ensure yourself what I call a "fashion camouflage" of sorts. Why, my darlings? Because tiers will balance out a top-heavy figure while the V-neck works to de-emphasize the well-endowed chest. Now for our friends of the flatter persuasion, I offer you my Build-A-Better-Bustline-In-One-Night solution. Think bateau neckline on just about any knee-length dress. You can make this as stylish and flirty as you like. I personally would accessorize with chic heels and a pair of dangerously daring earrings to make a sweetheart of a bridesmaid gown. And don't forget to offset the neckline with a chic fabric waistline belt. This outlines the beauty of any best friend and the girls will love you for it.

Host: And what of the bride's Significant Other and his manly entourage of two-legged testosterone cronies? With so many options for the gals, is there any hope for our boy toys?

Leemon: But of course, dearest. The days of the boring tuxedo are long gone. Bridal gown designers such as myself suggest the gentlemen stay with the darker colors and shades, but let's not have our manly types go anywhere near those dreadful cummerbunds! It was okay for the Senior Prom, but a no-way-no-how for wedding-wear. The key here is in the fit. A man's shirt sleeves should fall about a half-inch past his jacket sleeves. And for the trousers, trust my designer background when I say they should break just over the shoe tops. You don't want that "too short" or "too long" look that says fashion faux paux. Now I personally prefer ties to bowties for the slimming look they offer. I would compliment this sleek, sophisticated look with a colorful boutonniere to add a bit of eye-catching accent to complete the outfit.

Host: Ladies, Madame Leemon once again speaks the truth. We can't forget our men. A sorry-looking groom or brood of ushers does not a wedding album make. Well, the time has flown by again on another installment of "Gown Talk". I want to thank Madame for enlightening all us "Material Girls" about the wide-open Wedding Gown Material World. From bridal gown bargains to designer bridal gowns, we'll talk about every inch of it here on "Gown Talk." Until next week, it's goodbye and good gown hunting from all of us to all of you!
